On December 8, 2017, the Departments of English Didactics at the Free University of Berlin and the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt will present the second iteration of their conference series Focus on Evidence – Foreign Language Didactics Meets Neuroscience.
At an invitational conference hosted by the Free University of Berlin on December 8, 2017, a group of internationally respected neuroscientists will meet with researchers and practitioners in foreign language didactics. The latest findings in brain research will be presented in a series of compact lectures, followed by open discussions in which experts from the neurosciences and representatives from the field of education will consider the possible consequences for foreign language teaching and learning.
Focus on Evidence is the only scholarly platform of its kind in Germany, aiming to make neuroscientific findings and transfer discussions available within the field of foreign language didactics, and supplementing these with transfer contributions in the form of published conference proceedings. Because of the uniqueness and relevance of the thematic spectrum covered by Focus on Evidence, and because of its particular orientation toward scientific research that holds the greatest potential significance for foreign language didactics, the conference garners immense interest.
In order to meet this demand, Focus on Evidence will be made accessible worldwide and in real time as a webinar on December 8, 2017, so that all those who are interested have the possibility of learning about the latest neuroscientific findings and participate in the discussion of how these findings might be implemented in the foreign language classroom. From anywhere in the world, students, teachers, pre-service and in-service training groups, seminars and workshop groups, etc. can follow the conference presentations and participate in the transfer discussions online in English or German.
Save the date, and register soon for the webinar. Meanwhile, be sure to visit the website from time to time, as we will be continually updating it with news, details on the conference schedule, and information about the presenters.
This volume (entirely in German) presents the conference results of renowned neuroscientists and noted experts in teaching and learning of foreign languages. Capital discussion topics were the
questions: How can results in neuroscientific research be applied to the teaching and learning of foreign languages? The common goal was to find new ways of effective foreign language education
which refer to empirical evidence.
This volume, edited by Heiner Böttger (KU Eichstätt) and Michaela Sambanis (FU Berlin) takes you on a journey of intensive discussion and transfer of knowledge between two disciplines as well as between research and practice.
